After 14 years of military service spent guarding the Berlin Wall, and participating in Desert Storm, Chuck Smith finally returned to Aiken to start a family. He joined Edward Jones to work in finances, but never forgot the brave soldiers he fought beside.
While Chuck's personal efforts to advance Aiken County were successful, working together as a community can do so much more. Because of this, Chuck Smith created North Augusta 2000, an initiative to bring further economic development to North Augusta.
Chuck has served as Chairman of the ECA since 2015. The ECA is a national organization comprising local governments, community reuse organizations and other groups with a stake in Department of Energy, or DOE, activities. Chuck recognizes that the other communities represented by the ECA have their own local concerns. However, by pooling their resources to influence lawmakers and DOE officials, ECA members assist each other in advancing issues related to their individual communities, including Aiken County.
